A staggering $7 billion was spent on political campaigns in 2012, most of it spent by corporations and the very wealthy to influence elected officials in their favor. Corporate influence in politics continues to widen the gap between the rich and the poor, hampers environmental reforms, and keeps Americans dependent on fossil fuels, all for the sake of increasing corporate profits.
Move to Amend is a grassroots initiative to curb the influence that corporations have on the political process by calling for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that firmly establishes that corporations are not people and that money is not protected speech.
Sunday, February 2 from 2 to 3:45 p.m. Move to Amend – Central Ohio is holding an introductory workshop at the Whetstone Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, 3909 North High Street in Columbus.
The workshop will include a presentation by a local member of Move to Amend, a screening of the film Legalizing Democracy, and an open discussion. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Sue at firstname.lastname@example.org.
