On Sunday January 22nd TCM is having a tribute for Bela Lugosi and they’re showing three of his films. So here is a guide on which films got pick and when they are going to be aired. This is a must not miss for classic horror fans and Bela Lugosi fans alike.
1. Murders in the Rue Morgue (1932)
Time: 8:00 P.M. Eastern and 7:00 P.M. Central
Plot Summary: In 19th Century Paris the crazed Dr. Mirakle kidnaps young woman and injects them with ape’s blood to prove connection between humans and apes. Well a medical student named Pierre finds that his girlfriend is gone missing and now it’s up to him and the police to save her.
2. The Black Cat (1935)
Time: 9:15 Eastern and 8:15 Central
Plot Summary: Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi starred in this horror picture about a young couple lost and trapped in the home of the crazed architect (Karloff) and they meet up beforehand with Dr. Verdegast (Lugosi) who had been a POW for 15 years. It has nothing to do with Poe’s short story besides the title but is still make an interesting watch.
Island of Lost Souls (1933)
Time: 10:30 Eastern and 9:30 Central
Plot Summary: Charles Laughton is Dr. Moreau, the crazed scientist who makes humans into half animal and half human abominations. Lugosi played the Sayer of the Law. Island of Lost Souls still to this day is a haunting picture and if you want a great version of it, buy the copy from Criterion!
