Suncoast movie magic returns to Sarasota

Florida's tropical climate is best experienced in its Gulf Coast community of Sarasota. Thriving with an active arts culture, fine and casual dining spots to satisfy most every taste, and its world class beaches, Sarasota has an even better reason for sun-lovers to explore this gem of a city: the annual Sarasota Film Festival in downtown Sarasota.
Now in its 16th year, the festival has highlighted films, filmmakers, and celebrities from all genres and talents. Kevin Kline, Geena Davis, Frank Langella, Rory Kennedy, Peter Bogdanovich, and others, have attended past SFF events, and Rory Kennedy ("Ethel") returns this year featuring her documentary film, "Last Days in Vietnam."
Kennedy's film, chosen as the SFF Opening Night Film on Sat., April 4, explores the lives of veterans during the war years spanning WWI to the present and launches the film festivals "Acts of Valor" program.
About 252 films have been chosen from among hundreds entered into this year's festival. Shorts, animation, documentaries, foreign films, comedies, thrillers, and the yet-to-be-aptly categorized films that will join the ranks of those making their debut at the festival.
But lest you think you'll be overwhelmed with film-watching until your eyes glaze over, there are lots of other events planned for the festival that runs from April 4-April 13. The Red Carpet walk; discussions with local filmmakers, directors, actors; Opening Night and Closing Night parties, a filmmaker's Tribute Luncheon, and a festive island-themed event where guests will witness Sarasota's jewel, Sarasota Bay and its sunsets.
