The Connecticut Sun will have a significantly reduced UConn presence on their roster this season. On draft day, the Sun rocked the women's basketball word when they traded Tina Charles, the overall No.1 draft pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft and UConn's all-time leading rebounder, to her hometown New York Liberty in exchange for Alyssa Thomas, Kelsey Bone, and the Liberty's No. 1 pick next year. Then, on Tuesday, the Sun bid adieu to another of Connecticut's favorite daughters, Kalana Greene.

Greene, who played in more games than any other player in UConn history, was drafted by the Liberty in the first round by the New York Liberty with the 13thh overall pick in 2010. Originally drafted by the New York Liberty with the 13th overall pick in 2010, Greene was traded to the Sun during the 2011 WNBA Draft in exchange for Connecticut’s 2nd round pick (No. 16 overall), Sydney Colson. A tenacious defender, she played three seasons for the Sun, appearing in 101 games and starting in 95. Last year, the 26-year-old South Carolina native averaged 5.1 points and 3.7 rebounds per contest.

The departure of Greene leaves the Sun with just two former Huskies on the roster—Renee Montgomery and Kelly Faris. The Sun will tip-off their 12th season in Connecticut when they host Charles and the New York Liberty this Friday night, May 16 at 7 p.m. at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Season tickets and mini plans are on sale and can be purchased by calling the Sun at 1.877.SUN.TIXX (786-8499), or via email at tickets@connecticutsun.com.
