Sun City reImagined Open House this weekend, Interview with Tera Hampton

Interior Designer Tera Hampton has been wanting to get her hands on the model homes in Sun City for a while now. She has done work in the area regularly, and noticed the model homes could use some updating. Finally presented with the opportunity, she has enjoyed the challenge of working within a budget, "It's been exciting to get in there and just do what I love to do everyday - it's fun, and they really let me have the freedom to do what I thought was best." adds Tera, "It was also a challenge to stay within my budget, but I had a great foundation to start with."

Tera will be unveiling the refreshed model homes in Sun City during the "Sun City Texas ReImagined" grand opening this Saturday March 2nd, hosted by developer Del Webb.

Hampton started her company Sensible Redesign after years of helping friends and family with their homes - they noticed she had a knack for design, and encouraged her to do more. When a real estate agent asked her to stage a house for her nine or ten years ago, Tera wasn't even sure what staging was. But after some investigation and taking an online course, Tera fell in love with it."I loved helping people move on to the next stage in their life, and helping them get their house sold. Everything just snowballed from there." Tera has been busy staging homes ever since.

Realizing people were often on a budget, and enjoying the challenge of working with what people had, friends helped her come up with her slogan "Taking what you have and making it better." "You can give any designer $10,000 and they can make a space look unbelievable, but it's hard to give a designer $1,500 and make a whole house look great ... but, it's rewarding for me to have people fall back in love with what they have by repurposing or reorganizing it in a new way." says Tera.

Tera had always loved the HGTV show "Design Star", and had been watching ever since season one, thinking "I can do that." After a suggestion from her hairdresser and encouragement from her husband, she applied for season three. Proof you shouldn't give up too soon, Tera was accepted on Season Five, "Its been non-stop since I returned."

Tera is an excellent example of following your dreams and doing what you love, "I'm a firm believer that you can have as much book smarts as you want, but you have to have experience and hands-on experience to really get the knowledge." Find out more about Tera Hampton by visiting her website Sensible Re-Design.

Enjoy some food and drinks at the Grand Opening this Saturday, the event is from noon to 5p.m., find our more about Del Webb and Sun City here, Tera will be on-site to share her tips and show you how you can use her unique approach to refresh your own home.
