As one of the few black metal bands keep the older spirit alive, Summoning invoke a silence whenever there is news of their new doings. Unlike most Tolkien-inspired bands, these Austrians create a true atmosphere of the ancient and epic in their addictively complex winding songs.
Now they're back on the warpath, after members have kicked out Kreuzweg Ost (ambient neofolk industrial) and Ice Ages (ambient) releases in the last two years, with work beginning on a new Summoning album.
In recent years we have worked on new material only rarely because of different reasons (partly personal, partly being not motivated enough) but over the past few months, we have intensified the work for new material and realised, that the old spirit is back again and we are very motivated for a cool new release and we are very committed in terms of composing.
Meanwhile there are two songs which are works in progress for the album. 4 or 5 songs are in a more advanced state and we have composed riffs for at least 10 or 15 songs in a very early state. In addition, we still have one finished song from the last Oath Bound session which also will be on the new album in some form or another. - Official Summoning web presence
