Summertime shopping: 3 purchase mistakes to avoid

A recent article suggests that shoppers could save a few dollars avoiding certain shopping mistakes.

According to the Associated Press, there are at least 15 purchases made that are "robbing you blind". However, for summertime, there are four that set us back in particular. And when you really think about it, they're items that can be smart purchases if the right avenue is taken in the shopping process.

These items are:

  • Video Games:
  • Clothes
  • Computers and Tablets

With summertime approaching and with the kids home for a few months, activity is the top priority. When it comes to videos games, it's about relevance and participation. Let's face it: You've really got to think about what you're buying before you get home and realize that it's not going to work out. Here are some thoughts:

  1. How many people in your house play video games? Are they age appropriate for visitors as well?
  2. How many of those games are one player?
  3. Do you have games that provide a multiplayer experience?

Clothes, on the other hand, is contingent on the situation. If you're looking for jeans...get jeans! Do they have to be from the latest Macy's? Or can they come from the local thrift store? I mean, if you just need a pair of jeans shop around.

Computers and tablets should be purchased on the basis of software relevance. There are games and software that may not work on your old iPad or Android Tablets. In that case, upgrade. Android has a plethora of tablets on the market by various manufacturers, but be sure to check the reviews on those tablets and customers support. When it comes to Android tablets, if it's too good to be a deal, more than likely it is.
