Summertime’s for Soave

Re Midas Soave 2012 is a refreshing wine from Italy’s Veneto, the lovely grape growing region north of Venice. The grapes are 100 percent Garganega, the traditional grape for this varietal wine.

I enjoyed this bottle, received as a sample, with a hearty bowl of cauliflower soup with arugula and a grilled cheese sandwich on organic bread from the Catskills. The refreshing acidity of the wine washed down the rich flavors of lunch well. This is a wine I would gladly drink solo, too. Its nose was a complex mix of peaches, pears, and lemons, with some fresh cut grass thrown in. On the palate, there were more peaches and pears. The wine had a nice finish, and it was overall a very flavorful and satisfying wine. When summer temperature hits New York, this will be a great bottle to open for summer sipping. Re Midas Soave is a great value at about $10 and is available at 36th Avenue Wines.
