Summertime is great for running in Lynchburg. From fun runs and obstacle courses to Lynchburg Road Runner Race Series events, there's something for everyone.

Runners can also attend free injury clinics with Rehab Associates of Central Virginia at Riverside Runners on the third Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon.

Kick off your July running with the Annual Mizuno Summer Cookout on the Avenue with Garmin & Thorlos at Riverside Runners, 2480 Rivermont Avenue, on Thursday, July 10, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Try the newest Mizuno shoes, Garmin GPS watches and Thorlos Experia socks for the 6:00 p.m. fun run. Staring around lunchtime, get your Garmin updated or try a GPS watch on the fun run. Try on Mizuno footwear and Experia socks starting at 5 p.m. and keep the socks after the fun run. Test run the Mizuno Wave Rider, Inspire or Paradox.

The fun run at 6 p.m. starts at Riverside Runners and heads out Rivermont and Peakland, before returning to Riverside Runners for a cookout, games, music and prizes. Bring the family and enjoy a good time for all ages.

Register at Riverside Runners or The Aid Station for these Lynchburg summertime running events to keep in shape and meet your running goals.

The Percival's Island 5-Miler will be held at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19. Assisted athletes are welcome at this event and need to register at least a week in advance.

The Percival's Island 5-Miler, the fifth run in the Lynchburg Road Runners 2014 Race Series, begins at Percival's Island and follows the Blackwater Creek Bikeway.

The LHR Children's Fun Run and 5K Family Walk will be held at 8:00 a.m. on Aug. 2 at Peaks View Park. Three age groups are available for the Children's Fun Run. Ages 2-5 will run 1/4 mile. Ages 6-9 will run 1/2 mile. Ages 10-13 will run 1 mile. Participants in the Children's Fun Run may join their families on the Family Walk for no additional fee. Fun Run participation is limited so register early.

The Lynchburg Half Marathon & 5K, the sixth and final run in the Lynchburg Road Runners 2014 Race Series, will be held on Aug. 9 at Percival's Island and the Blackwater Creek Bikeway. The Half Marathon begins at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K begins at 8:00 a.m.

The Face the Forest 5K Obstacle Run will be held at Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest on Aug. 16 at 9:00 a.m. Entry fees for this fun event help support children’s educational programming at Poplar Forest and the Jamerson YMCA’s outreach program.

The 2nd Annual Fireman's 5K/Junior Mile will be held at 8:00 a.m. on Aug. 23 in Forest. The Dash for Dog Tags 5K & 1K Honor Walk will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 30 at New London Airport in Forest. Proceeds will be used for transportation services for local wheelchair-bound veterans.
