Visit your state's tourism site to find summer festivals, events and destinations offering fun for all. Virginia Beach is one of the top summer destinations in Virginia, but you'll also find mountain resorts, amusement parks, historic sites, water parks, hiking, camping, festivals and more.

Your family may also enjoy time spent together at home. Celebrate summer in your own backyard with water fun, outdoor grilling, neighborhood gatherings and old fashioned games like tag, kickball, volleyball or badminton.

Ride bikes in your driveway, at a park or in your neighborhood. Explore your neighborhood on nature walks. Create a scavenger hunt and search for items in your yard, neighborhood or around your city.

Invite family and friends over for a summer block party. Let each family provide burgers or hot dogs for their family and a side dish or dessert for an inexpensive party. After the grilling, enjoy s'mores cooked over the coals.

Plan a backyard campout. This is a great way to introduce kids to camping. Set up the tent, add a few inflatable mattresses or sleeping bags and you're ready to enjoy a night under the stars.

Pick up a slip 'n slide, kiddie pool or water sprinkler to enjoy water fun with the family. Enjoy a friendly family water gun battle. Give each family member a water fun and set up buckets for refilling them.

Draw funny pictures on the sidewalk or in the driveway with chalk, have a bubble blowing contest or help your kids set up a lemonade stand.

Summer road trips are also a great way to make family memories. Choose a destination or spend the day exploring close to home. Visit relatives across the state or on the other end of the country.

Visit your city's tourism office and pick up a guide for walking tours of historic neighborhoods in your own city. Check out the parks around town. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy a day at the park together.

Summer is a time to relax and enjoy being a family. Pack your summer days with lots of opportunities to make family memories together.
