What is it about Summers in Brooklyn?
It has all the right components for a great go-to spot for coffee, fresh juices, and memorable nosh.
The owners of Summers Juice & Coffee seem to have found their niche in Williamsburg’s south side by supplying that section with high quality sustenance at a reasonable cost.
Christopher Taha and co-owner Alex Kleinberg met at Clinton Street Baking Company in the lower east side, bonded over their common interest in surfing and healthy living and became friends. It turns out that they both also had restaurant backgrounds and were looking to launch their first restaurant venture. Taha worked as a server and restaurant consultant in Miami, and Kleinberg’s family owns Clinton Street Baking where the two first met.
Thus the birth of Summers Juice & Coffee (August of 2013) where a relaxed coffee culture meets a surfing culture aesthetic offering patrons cold pressed juices from locally grown produce and coffee from Brooklyn Roasting Company. Juice options include green (spinach, kale, celery, spirulina and cucumber) and red (beet, carrot, red apple, ginger) juices.
Summers strives to bring juicing to the masses, which is why they not only have bottled cold press juices, but also made-to-order juices at a lower price point. The difference, as Taha explains, is that the health benefits are little bit higher with the cold press process. Cold press preserves more nutrients, whereas with centrifugal juicing, there is some plant enzyme loss from the heat of the juicer’s spinning blade. Overall, he says, “All juicing is good for you.”
You can also order a fresh kale salad, smoothies, cleanses and baked goodies from Clinton Street Baking Company. If you’re feeling a bit hungrier, you’ll find a variety of house-made sandwiches including their popular fried egg sandwich and white cheddar cheese, made with cage free eggs, thick avocado on a real roll with real bacon if you want it.
