Get ready for the largest music festival in the world as Summerfest starts today and lasts through July 4. Local bars offer transportation, drink specials and other promotions during all days.
Though there is an abundance of alcoholic beverages being poured at the festival, overpriced beer may not be for all music lovers. Drinkers who want to save some money should consider drinking at a bar before and after checking out their favorite bands. Hang onto your Summerfest ticket stub because it may get you extra drink specials at certain bars.
Stay away from drunk driving and expensive, hard-to-find parking by taking a bar's free shuttle to the Summerfest grounds at Henry W. Maier Festival Park along the lake front. Sometimes referred to as “drunk buses,” free shuttles ride all day long from the city's east and south sides. The east side shuttle makes stops at Hooligan's, BBC, Club Brady, Can's, Vitucci's and more, while the south side shuttle departs from Spirits, King Pins and Vnuk's Lounge. Other bars, such as Murphy's Irish Pub near the Marquette campus, may offer additional free shuttle services. Shuttles run both ways, and more information is available by contacting the bars directly.
Other cheap transportation is available through the Milwaukee County Transit System via Park & Ride lots and downtown bus routes. Downtown shuttle fare is $3 round trip and $1.50 for children and seniors.
Take advantage of all the savings Summerfest has to offer by utilizing special promotional days that give access to reduced or even free admission on certain days.
