No, this is not an event for celebrities. At the Summer Start Festival at Paramount Ranch, the center of attention will be astronomical heavy hitters. Attendees will gather at Paramount Ranch, a former filming ranch in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Looking skyward, with the assistance of astronomers and telescopes, you can check out Saturn, the moon, and other points in the Milky Way. The summer Star Festival also falls during the Perseid meteor shower, so there should be plenty to see without a telescope.
The NPS event page offers this description:
“Astronomers will share information about our solar system and beyond. Telescopes will be directed towards the Moon, Saturn, and other objects in our Milky Way Galaxy. Learn about nocturnal animals and ecology from naturalists. Bring a flashlight with a red lens or a red cellophane filter.”
The National Park Service event is free to the public. You do not need a reservation to attend. The Summer Star Festival will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 10th and last for three hours. In addition to telescopes, there will be music and activities for children. For more information, call the park visitor center at 805-370-2301.
The Summer Star Festival will take place at Paramount Ranch, located at 2903 Cornell Road, Agoura Hills, CA, 91301.
