It’s the end of the summer and Famous Dave’s Restaurant in Idaho Falls has been open just three short months but is already proving to be a hit with Eastern Idahoans. The Wisconsin-based chain opened their recent store in this neck of the woods on May 24th to huge crowds eager to taste the Midwestern restaurant’s brand of barbecue.

So far, Famous Dave’s has not disappointed. Offering traditional barbecue fare, including ribs, brisket, and chicken, the tables also come equipped with several signature barbecue sauces for every palate (and heat preference). Meals are affordable, most less than $15 a dinner plate, and the portions are ample. There are several side dish choices ranging from traditional (such as beans and coleslaw) to unique (“Drunkin’ Apples” and “Firecracker Green Beans” among others). There is a full bar equipped to make specialty cocktails, and, on the dessert menu, the bread pudding is not to be missed.

The three-month-old restaurant, whose building recently found new life after Ruby River Steakhouse moved out, is clean and cleverly decorated in a Midwestern lake-country-theme. Service is friendly and prompt and the food is truly very good. If diners are lucky, they will encounter one of the restaurant’s piggy mascots wandering around while they enjoy their meal (quite a hit with the kids!).

Famous Dave’s is located on the east side of I-15 off Broadway next to the Westside Walmart. The address is 245 Houston Circle, (208) 523-1712. Open for lunch and dinner daily; catering and carry-out are available.
