The 19th Annual Avon Day 5K will be held this Saturday, May 31, 2014 in Avon by the Sea. N.J. The race in recent years has grown and attracts a field of well over a thousand runners.

The event is staged by the Avon First Aid Squad with assistance from the Jersey Shore Running Club.
Runners can pick up their race numbers and shirts as well as register on Wednesday and Thursday May 28 and 29 at the Avon First Aid Bldg. 520 Main Street in Avon or on Friday at the Avon Pool, Ocean Avenue & Norwood Avenue. Day of registration is also available starting on race morning at 7 a.m.
It is a flat and fast course which starts and finishes on Ocean Avenue and winds through some nice tree lined streets in the borough.
There are overall and age group awards as well as awards for top Avon residents with a total of $400 cash awards. There are also some great random prize drawings donated by local establishments.
Coming in first overall last year and for the men was Brian Quilty of Brick in a time of 16:52. He was followed by Matt Nunnally of Avon in 18:24 then Jon Smolenski of Howeel in 18:32, Robert Shields of Parsippany in 19:03 and Jim Milkowski of Brielle in 19:06.
For the women it was Jenna Pisani of Morristown breaking the tape first in a time of 19:19. She was followed by Dianne DeOliviera of Brick in 19:44, Meagan Drapkin of Brick in 20:09 and then Sophia Barnathan of Brooklyn, N.Y. in 20:17.
Also on Saturday in Seaside Park is the popular Race for Respect.
