The end of summer is approaching, and most children will be going back to school in a few weeks. Celebrations for the end of summer are being held, and will make the transition to the ending of summer easier when children participate in activities that recognize their accomplishments for the summer season.
The Young Summer Readers Clubs that have been sponsored by the Sarasota County library system will celebrate the end of summer on August 6 and August 9 at two of the community libraries. The celebrations at the Selby Library and the North Sarasota Library are just two of the libraries that will celebrate the completion of six weeks of reading that young children have participated in during the summer season. The Young Readers Clubs sponsor programs for children ages birth-11 years.
"Pizza and Puppetry" end of summer reading celebration will be held at the Selby Library on August 6th from 5:45-7:30 p.m.. This celebration is geared toward children ages 3-11. All children who have participated in the six-week reading program are invited to attend. Children will enjoy free pizza and participate in a craft activity. A favorite story, "The Gingerbread Boy", will be performed as a puppet show by the renowned puppeteer Steve Knight. Certificates for the completion of the summer reading program will be presented to each child who completed the summer reading program.
The North Sarasota Library is inviting children ages birth-11 years to celebrate the completion of the Young Summer Readers Club on August 9th from 1-4 p.m. Children who have completed at least 20 minutes of reading per day for six weeks during the summer either with a parent or by themselves are invited to attend the celebration.
