Summer Movies 2013

The first day of summer is on Friday, June 21st. But summer movie season starts Friday, May 3rd with the first summer movie release. It may not seem like it here in New York with the snow, wind and rain, but summer is around the corner. Here is a list of movies that are coming out this summer. Maybe one of these movies will be the undisputed movie of the summer like last year's The Avengers:

  1. Iron Man 3(May 3rd) – Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow

Director: Shane Black

Summary: Tony Stark's world is torn apart by a terrorist called the Mandarin and he starts on a journey to rebuild. Without even seeing anything but the trailer I will say that this, like The Dark Knight Rises, will be the best of the series. Everyone likes a good comeback story.

  1. The Great Gatsby(May 10th) – Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan

Director: Baz Luhrmann

Summary: This is another adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, about Nick who is enamored with the extravagant life of his neighbor, Jay Gatsby, a young millionaire with shady business connections. Soon Nick sees that Gatsby's life isn't as wonderful as it seems. This movie was scheduled for release last year but kept getting pushed back and honestly it needs to get pushed back again. It most likely won't do well at the box office with all of the other big movies coming out around the same time but I hope it does well, I love Leo.

  1. Star Trek Into Darkness(May 17th) – Starring: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana

Director: J.J. Abrams

Summary: After the crew finds an unstoppable force within their organization, Captain Kirk leads the Enterprise to a war zone world to find and capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. From the trailers this movie looks epic and hopefully it will be as good as the first one.

  1. Fast Six(May 24th) – Starring: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriquez

Director: Justin Lin

Summary: The old crew is back for another heist, but this time they are trying to bring down a rival group so that all of their names can finally be cleared and they can stop running. I have loved this series from the beginning, and the good thing about these movies are that they can appeal to people of all ages. Fans of the series will also note that Michelle Rodriquez is back which will be exciting to see because she was supposedly killed in the fourth installment.

  1. The Hangover Part 3(May 24th) – Starring: Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, John Goodman

Director: Todd Phillips

Summary: Well, this movie isn't about memory loss, a wedding or a bachelor party. What is it about, who knows and who cares because to be honest people are going to go see it even if they never show a trailer, just tell us the day it opens. This is the last movie of the series and lets hope it is as much fun and funny as the first one.

  1. Man of Steel(June 14th) – Starring: Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Russell Crowe

Director: Zack Snyder

Summary: No one except the people who were involved know what this movie is about. IMDB gave the summary as: “A journalist is raised by his adoptive parents after he is transported to Earth as an infant from his dying planet...” Basically this is a movie about Superman and his fight to save the Earth from something that will destroy it. Well I know that I am intrigued and I hope that the mystery of it will make others want to see it as well.

  1. The End of the World(June 14th) – Starring: Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, James Franco

Director: Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg

Summary: While attending a party at James Franco's house a group of celebrities; includeing Seth Rogen, Emma Watson and Rihanna, experience the apocalypse. Sure it sounds dumb, but so did Superbad and that was funny, plus the cast includes some really funny and talented people so the potential is there for this movie to be a hit, even if James Franco is in it.

  1. Monsters University(June 21st) – Starring: John Goodman and Billy Crystal

Director: Dan Scanlon

Summary: This is a prequel to Monsters Inc. where Mike and Sully are in college at the University of Fear. The movie is about how they went from being rivals to BFF's. The first one was a huge hit and this is PIXAR so you know it's going to be good.

  1. The Internship(June 28th) – Starring: Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn

Director: Shawn Levy

Summary: Two recently laid-off salesmen in their 40's become interns at a successful internet company where their managers are in their 20's. This is a Wedding Crashers reunion that may not be as funny, but Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn have enough proven chemistry to carry this movie straight to the top of the box office.

  1. The Lone Ranger(July 3rd) – Starring: Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer

Director: Gore Verbinski

Summary: Native American spirit warrior, Tonto, tells the story about John Reid and how he became a legend. Honestly if Johnny Deep wasn't in it who would care about this movie. He may be the only reason people go see this movie.

  1. Grown Ups 2( July 12th) – Starring: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock

Director: Dennis Dugan

Summary: The old crew is back, except for Rob Schneider, and they are all together to be with their children for the most exciting day of a child's life, last day of school. Who knows why this movie was made, even the summary doesn't sound appealing. I don't know what happened to Adam Sandler, he use to be funny and I liked the first one so maybe it won't be as bad as it sounds.

  1. The Wolverine(July 26th) – Starring: Hugh Jackman

Director: James Mangold

Summary: This movie takes place after X Men- The Last Stand with Logan going to Japan where he will test his limits, physically, mentally and emotionally to overcome a mysterious figure from his past. This isn't really a sequel in the normal sense but still shows Wolerine's story. If you are a fan of the series, then this will be a good one to watch to prepare for the new X-Men movie that is in development.

Well this looks like it is going to be one good summer for people who watch a lot of movies. I know there are a lot more movies coming out, so comment below with some movies that you can’t wait to see.
