I am sure you have heard the old saying: The early bird catches the worm. This saying has been proven true by people that regularly set goals and uses a variety of systems in order to meet, and/or exceed those goals.

In 2013, Prince George’s County made a commitment to expand its Youth@Work Summer Youth Enrichment Program (SYEP) this year. In order to train and employ more county high school students, ages 15 to 19-years old. Registrations for this program begin on Feb. 25, 2014 and ended Apr. 04, 2014. As early birds, these students are leading the student employment line, and are promised jobs this summer. Are you one of them?

Comments are often made regarding the status of America’s labor market. This and lack of summer jobs was the driving force behind the formation of partnerships between the government and businesses to hire high school students for the summer. Otherwise, summer employments for these students are extremely low because they are competing against older workers with more experiences for the same jobs. Although, employment opportunities for college students are better because of professional internship programs offered under government and private entities. If college students postpone their search for these opportunities, the probability of them being hire for one of these positions are limited, too.

If you are a procrastinating high school or college student that needs a summer job, all is not lost. However, you need to submit your job applications to the following employers before schools close for summer break.
