Summer is coming and school will be out

Summer is coming. Mothers across Manatee and Sarasota Counties sit at home, at their desks at work, in a coffee shop, in their cars, in their beds at night, wondering “What on earth will I do with a houseful of kids over the summer?” How many days of school are left?

Day camps. Better yet, 'Sleep Away Camps,' even if only for a week.

Churches across the state have cultivated a wonderful Day or Evening Camp experience, via Vacation Bible School. Here are a few options:

Happy Gospel Church, located at 1915 53rd Ave E in Bradenton, 34203, is offering a wonderful Wilderness Escape. The motto is” Where God Guides and Provides.” You may contact them @ 941-756-6942, or visit their registration page http://www.happygospelchurch.com/vbs/

Harvest United Methodist church, located at 1430 Covenant Way, Bradenton, 34202, is offering a Weird Animals VBS on June 16-20. Cost is $10 per child. Camp hours are 9 am – 12 noon. You may visit their web-page https://www.groupvbspro.com/vbs/ez/harvest2014/gpgs/home.aspx

Woodlands Community Church is offering VBS in two locations. Children K-5th living in Parrish, Palmetto and Ellenton are asked to reserve their space at Virgil Mills Elementary School. Camp is from 9 am-12 noon, K-5th. There is space for 200 campers. Bradenton and Lakewood Ranch residents are asked to register at the Woodlands location 9607 St Rd 70 E. Camp will be held July 14-17.

Then there is Sleep Away Camp, where children are absorbed into the total camp experience. Christian Retreat, located at 1200 Glory Way Blvd. In Bradenton 34212, is offering the choice of Day Camp or Sleep Camp. The daily and evening curriculum is the same for both campers. The theme is STAND, ages 5-13.

The verse this year's camp is founded on comes from 1 Kings 19:1a,"The Lord said, go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by."

Pastor Sue Lowery has stated, “We truly believe that this generation is no longer content to
sit on the sidelines and be spectators. They want to participate! If we don't teach them to
"STAND" for something, they will fall for everything! It's time to help them re-build their
foundation, and teach them to hear the voice of God.”

“This year’s camp is jam-packed with new activities, including the new "Screamer Water
Slide," swimming, canoeing, human shuffle board, black light volleyball and more...from
crazy skits to creative scripture memory and incredible art workshops. The children each
choose an art workshop they attend daily and present to the entire camp in an awesome
program on Friday night. Some of the arts workshops are flags, swords, dance, Christian
glee club, back light drama, extreme puppets, rap, step dance, dub step and more... See
the web site for more details.” http://christianretreat.org/cretreat/kidzone/kids-a-flame/
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Pastor Sue Lowery at the KAF office at 941-746-

All Day or Sleep Away, may your children's camp experience be blessed! And Mom's enjoy your summer!
