The first week of September will mirror weather conditions like the middle of July as hazy, hot, and humid weather will be in place throughout New Jersey today followed by thunderstorms tonight. The hot weather conditions will continue through the rest of the week, but a return to cool Fall like weather is not far away.

High pressure will continue to shift to the east today as southwesterly winds transport a hazy, hot, and humid air mass into New Jersey for this afternoon. A few isolated showers and thunderstorms will be a threat after 2 PM, however most locations will remain dry. The thunderstorms will be capable of brief heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and wind gusts over 40 mph. Temperatures will rise into the upper 80's to lower 90's for highs this afternoon and will feel like the mid 90's due to the humidity.

Tonight, a cold front will drive through New Jersey with a line of showers and thunderstorms after 7 PM tonight. The thunderstorms will linger through 4 AM tomorrow morning before exiting off the coast. The strongest thunderstorms will be capable of wind gusts over 40 mph, frequent lightning, hail, and very heavy downpours. Winds will be from the southwest at 5 to 15 mph, veering to the northwest by morning. Temperatures will fall into the upper 50's to lower 60's over northwestern New Jersey and mid to upper 60's throughout the rest of New Jersey.

High pressure will build into New Jersey from the Great Lakes by late tomorrow morning with clearing skies and falling humidity. The air mass will be of Pacific origin and thus will mean temperatures will remain above normal for this time of year. Temperatures will rise into the mid 80's for highs in the afternoon.

High pressure will remain in control for Thursday and Friday with clear skies to scattered cloud cover expected. Temperatures on Thursday will range from the upper 50's to lower 60's for lows and mid to upper 80's for highs. Temperatures on Friday will range from the mid 60's for lows and mid to upper 80's for highs.

A cold front will move through New Jersey on Saturday afternoon and evening with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Humid conditions will be in place ahead of the cold front. Temperatures will range from the upper 60's to lower 70's for lows and mid 80's for highs.

Cool, Canadian high pressure will be in place on Sunday and Monday with clear skies and very low humidity. Temperatures will range from the upper 50's to lower 60's for lows and upper 70's to lower 80's for highs.
