Summer events in the Carolinas and Georgia

Goths outside of major metropolitan areas often have a rough time finding events to their liking. This fact is more than true for you Columbia goths—the city, while expanding its arts and culture scene, still does not cater specifically to underground interests. For example, there are no goth clubs, or even goth nights, at any venue in or around the capital.

Fortunately, just because the summer sun is beating down doesn’t mean you have to hide away and entertain yourself! There are many activities that take place within driving distance, so you can get your fix despite living in the deep South. In fact, there are several upcoming events that might appeal to your dark sensibilities. Here, you’ll find all the information you need to choose and attend them. So get out and schedule some goth time into your summer!

  “Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz,” a musical, plays at Charlotte’s Ovens Auditorium from Sunday, May 30th, 2010, to Sunday, June 13th, 2010.   Single Cell Productions presents Decadence Project: Communion of the Flesh, a fetish event, on Saturday, June 12th, 2010, at Charlotte’s Amos' Southend. Tickets are $15, and the event begins at 8:30 PM.  For tickets, click here. For directions to Amos’ Southend, click here.

  Danzig will play at Charlotte’s The Fillmore on Wednesday, June 16th, 2010, at 7:30 PM. Other bands to play are Gorgeous Frankenstein (featuring Doyle from the Misfits) and Seventh Void.   Slick Idiot will play Atlanta’s The Drunken Unicorn on Wednesday, June 16th, 2010 at 9:00 PM. Other bands include Mona Mur and Embersreich. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the doors. This listing, of course, is incomplete. Numerous indie and non-famous bands are playing all over, and you won’t know if you like them unless you try them. Also, many shows have yet to be broadcast. Once announced, other major concerts will be added as a new article. Be sure to check back often for updates so you can keep track and make this summer the “Summer of Goth!”
