Summer at William F. Laman Library in North Little Rock will be filled with a variety of activities for the entire family. The summer reading programs are a big focus this season, with groups for all ages. The programs run from June 2 to July 26. In addition to reading, there are a number of exciting events planned for participants, including Storytelling with local broadcaster Craig O’Neill, Wednesday June 25, from 10 to 11 a.m.
For adult readers, the library will host the Meet the Author Series, taking place Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. This year the series will feature Denise Parkinson (Daughter of the White River: Depression-Era Treachery and Vengeance in the Arkansas Delta) on June 17; Jane F. Hankins (The Thirty-Foot Elvis) on June 24; Kevin Brockmeier (A Few Seconds of Radiant Filmstrip: A Memoir of Seventh Grade) on July 1; and wrapping up the series on July 8 will be Hope Coulter who has recently written an acclaimed short story titled Tales from the New World Viennese.
On June 12 at 7 p.m. Delta Brass Express will perform as part of the library’s Live At Laman music series. This band is comprised of professional musicians who specialize in the “Horn Band” sound, popular in the 1970s and 80s, in the tradition of groups like Chicago.
