Summer diet tips for a speedy slim-down

After a long winter spent sprawling on the sofa, Swiss miss in your mug, your bathroom scale may have become a rather ugly apparatus. And now that summer is in session with temperatures not justifying a saggy sweatshirt and loose Levi’s, you may be ready to bare some skin and slip into a slinky something. Here are some diet tips to lose weight quickly and painlessly (well, almost).

 

Eat

The urge to swiftly sever ties with your excess tummy may cause you to become a diet enthusiast. But skipping meals should never be part of your diet plan. In order to maintain healthy blood sugar levels and avoid a meltdown which could result in a major binge (picture yourself with remnants of a pizza and various snack cake wrappers strewn about).  A better way to diet is by replacing fatty, calorie laden treats with healthier substitutions. Try frozen yogurt, or low-fat ice cream, a square of chocolate (instead of the bar) and cooking your own meals rather than eating colossal portions at your favorite restaurants. If you must eat out look for the lighter fare on the menu, such as grilled chicken and fish and skip the sauces that are typically deal breakers in terms of the diet. Another reason to eat regularly is to fuel the metabolism.

 

Drink

The benefits of water are widely known, and for the dieter it is a fundamental fluid—a must drink. Water is effective in several ways; supports kidney and liver functioning (which helps flush toxins and metabolize fat), reverses fluid retention, energizes the body and can even speed up the metabolism. Research proves that swigging cold water burns calories as the body uses energy to stabilize its temperature.

 

Be Merry

While you cannot control five-o-clock traffic and your two-year-old’s untimely tantrum,you can control your reaction. Fending off feelings of anger, annoyance and misery, may determine the success of your diet--because stress increases cortisol production, which can lead to weight gain. In addition, depression can cause you to revoke your regimen and reach for the ice cream and Oreos instead.

 

So remember these three rules: Eat, Drink and Be Merry (coined by the wisest of kings—Solomon), and you will be well on your way to enjoying a slimmer summer bod complements of your admirable diet deeds.
