With temperatures in DC hovering in the high 90's, it's hard to believe anyone would want to brave the weather to sit at an outside "tiki" bar. However, certain places attract people on a hot, DC summer day, and Cantina Marina is one of them.
Cantina Marina is an excellent place for a summer date. It's right on the water, giving one a view of cruise ships, boats, and the Potomac as it winds around the bend. The occasional breeze from the water is refreshing and the laid back atmosphere is contagious. The crowd is very diverse, with ages ranging from early 20's to mid to late 70's and 80's. Everyone is there to have a good, relaxing time, which is what makes this place so special.
Go later in the day when it is not as hot. Grab a table for two alongside the water, order food and drinks, and relax.
Note: Cantina Marina serves mostly seafood - it is not very vegetarian/vegan friendly. However, they do have a side salad and are more than accommodating if you ask for your dish to be without meat.
