Summer dance events starting in June

Running now through September 19, Edgebrook in Rockford is hosting free live concerts outside the shopping center. This takes place Friday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. On the schedule are some great swing and jazz bands, which would be fantastic to dance to!

Also running currently, is this year’s summer dances with Friends of Riverfront in Beloit, WI. These outdoor dances are just a short drive away, and free to the public. They are Monday nights, with a lesson at 7 p.m, and open dancing following. The lessons cover a different type of dance each week, so there is sure to be something for you! These scenic dances will conclude at the end of August.

The Winnebago County Forest Preserve District invites you to participate with Native American drumming and dancing on Tuesday, June 17, from 7 to 8 p.m. This is part of the Get Outside program being held by the forest preserve. The event will take place at the historic site in Macktown Forest Preserve in Rockton. While you are there, be sure to check out the Woodland Indian displays. The event is free, and all ages are encouraged to enjoy, and take part in, the rhythms and movements which are historic to our area.

Forest City Swing has a couple new things starting up this summer. You asked for it, and they listened! More live music will be integrated into their schedule starting with the Jodi Beach Trio on June 26. Admission will be bumped up to $5 that night to cover the cost of the band. If you know of any bands you’d like to dance to in the future, be sure to mention it to the instructors or DJ at any of the regular Thursday night dances. They will also hold a Lindy Hop lesson downstairs during their normal lesson time on July 17. Cost for this lesson will be $5, instead of the normal $3 for East Coast Swing, but still includes the open dancing that follows.
