An hour away in Philly's back yard (also known as South Jersey) is a summer camp for kids of LGBTQ families run each year by Mountain Meadow.
This camp is a two-week, overnight camping experience for kids 9-17 taking place this year from August 9-22.
While many of the campers and staff are from the Greater Philadelphia area, there are also families who participate from other parts of the country. Like many other camps, most of the staff are former campers.
There's a Staff in Training program for 16 year-olds who also participate in the Diversity and Leadership Training program which teaches skills in teamwork and cooperation and helps kids become agents of social change in their communities.
Read more about what the camp is like and download registration information on their web site: www.mountainmeadow.org.
