Summer is just around the corner, and that means it's time to plan some activities for the kids. Farmington and Farmington Hills have wonderful, well-established youth programs that include many camps and classes to keep the kids active and busy all summer. Here are some highlights of what's available:

  • Children's tour camp: This camp affords a wide range of activities for kids ages 6 through 12. Each day brings a new adventure, with travel to water parks, the Detroit Zoo, bowling alleys, roller rinks and other fun places. The price is $130 per child for a week's worth of activities, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Farmington and Farmington Hills residents pay $120. See the Farmington Hills Recreation Brochure, page 20 for dates.

  • All sports camp: Kids ages 6 to 14 can attend this camp, which teaches the fundamentals of floor hockey, touch football, kickball, soccer and basketball. It runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is held at the Costick Center Monday through Friday June 28 - July 2 and July 26 - 30. Cost is $160; residents pay $150.

  • Heritage Park day camps: Camps featuring crafts, games, sports and special activities are held at Heritage Park throughout the summer. Age groups are 3 to 5, 6 to 8 and 9 to 12. Cost is $95 per week; residents pay $85, and camps run 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. See the Farmington Hills Recreation Brochure, page 19 for more information.

  • Drawing camps: Kids ages 5 through 12 can hone their drawing and other art skills at these camps, held at the Heritage Park Stables Studio. The three day camps, running Tuesday through Thursday, cost $65 and $55 for residents. See the Farmington Hills Recreation Brochure, page 17 for more information.
