Sultry and Sweet Sixties Hair Designs With Artizen USA Dolphin Iron
Sixties Hair Design & Photography By Jean Sweet, Artizen USA

Artizen Editorial Director, Jean Sweet, creates modern hairstyles inspired by a decade of culture

The beehive, the bikini and the British music invasion all contributed to the unforgettable era known as the 1960’s. This decade has left a lasting impression across the globe for its unique hairstyles, fashion forwardness and breaking down of social and cultural barriers. This era of change inspired Jean Sweet to create a brilliant new hair design collection using the Artizen Nano Dryer and their Dolphin 1.25” Flat Iron.

Jean Sweet is currently the Editorial Director with Artizen Worldwide, where she directs the editorial projects and guides their hair fashion photography sessions. Her position also entails platform stage work at beauty trade shows and teaching educational programs for Artizen. Sweet privately teaches hair design artistry while working with salons to photograph their hairstyle designs.

Creative Direction With Artizen Appliances: Sweet describes her creative art direction and process noting, “The first thing that I always think about when preparing to create a new hair design collection photography session with Artizen, is what will be the best way to creatively use their appliances. Then, I determine what kind of trendsetting hairstyles that will work well with them. Artizen appliances certainly work well with the 50’s and really well with the 70’s hairstyles, because we had a plenty of permed locks with lot of curls. I selected the 1960’s for this new retro trend collection, since that was one of the best eras for upstyles and elegant classic hair designs.” According to Sweet, this decade is the basis for all back-combing techniques. It also is the basis for high teased hair and avant-garde looks. Sweet adds, “Many of today’s newest fashion-forward ideas came from that 60’s era. In the 50’s, the hair was more conservative, classic and not as high or as big and bold. The 1960’s is just one of the best eras to illustrate hair design with photography. If you blend the imagery from that era with the popular Mad Men TV series and recent films, it reflects how well that various industries, entertainment and fashion have stylishly returned today with updated new images from the 60’s.”

Sixties Hair Fashion Trends: The 1960’s continue to inspire the current fashion trends of today, which are showcased in Sweet’s photography spread with the models wearing short fitted dresses in bright spring colors. Sweet shares, “During this photography shoot, I created big soft curls using the Artizen Dolphin Flat Iron. It’s just a great way to demonstrate what the professional Artizen irons can do for a hairstyle, especially the Dolphin, because it is the right size for molding big curls!”

According to Sweet, the Artizen Nano Dryer is lightweight as it allows hairstylists to get the temperature that they need. She is fond of the finish of the hair and is always pleased with the end results. Sweet notes, “If I want fullness, I need to get the volume. However, I don’t want the hair to look frizzy. I want the texture of the hair to turn out well.”

Artizen Dolphin Flat Iron: As for the flat irons, Sweet really likes the versatile Dolphin flat iron, “One of the best things about the irons that Ernie Brauchli has developed for Artizen with their unique surround heating technology, is that he’s been very aware of the fact that the edges around the plates have be rounded. When you use the techniques needed to put curls and all kinds of different locks in the hair, the Dolphin slides through. It easily glides through the hair due to the ceramic plate and because of the way the edges have been designed. Artizen designed the irons so that you can turn the iron and the heat is evenly distributed all around the edges.”

Artizen tools are safe and healthy for all types of hair. Often, elaborate hairstyles require a lot of heat. With the use of Artizen appliances, your hair continues to stay conditioned, shiny and look beautifully radiant. Other tools on the market tend to dry and damage the hair.
