In October 2013, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from the Department of Children and Family Services in reference to a 2 year old boy who had been brought into a local hospital with a broken leg.

During further investigation, detectives questioned Joshua J. Phillips, 33, and Christy L. Meche, 28, both of 409 N. Post Oak Road, Lot # 93, Sulphur, and both family members of the victim. Phillips advised detectives he struck the child on his right leg with a closed fist. Meche advised she was present in the home when Phillips struck the child and failed to report the incident.

On January 2, Phillips and Meche were arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. Phillips was charged with 2nddegree cruelty to a juvenile and Meche was charged with accessory after the fact to 2nddegree cruelty to a juvenile.

Judge Kent Savoie set Phillips’ bond at $50,000; and set Meche’s bond at $15,000.

The victim was removed from the home by the Department of Children & Family Services.

CPSO Detective Shannon Chesson is the lead investigator on this case.
