The actor tweeted that he was "hooked" on the sci-fi series back in July. Adams will play Jesse, a brave but regular guy who ends up in a lot of trouble when the clone characters played by Tatiana Maslany enter his life.
“From my first viewing of the first episode I knew there wasn’t another show on television that I wanted to be part of more than 'Orphan Black,'" Adams said in a statement. "Tatiana Maslany is doing some of the best work on TV. Period. Really, I just wanted front row seats to that performance.”
He joins three other actors who will have recurring roles in Season 2, including Michiel Huisman ("Nashville") as a a rugged, resourceful outdoorsman who needs all his wits as he crosses paths with the clones, Peter Outerbridge ("Nikita") as a mercurial modern-day cowboy who leads a flock of followers that have broken away from the old world “Prolethean” brotherhood, and Ari Millen ("Rookie Blue") as Mark, a cunning predator with a dark edge who is utterly devoted to Johanssen and a relentless pursuer of the clones.
"They’re awesome guys. Such amazing actors," Maslany told TV Line when asked about the new faces. "I can’t say too much about how they fit into the story. We’re just so excited to have people like that on our show who want to come to play with us and up all of our games and elevate the show."
Maslany was just nominated for a Golden Glode Award for her multiple performances in the BBC America drama.
