Suicide over iPhone prototype being investigated as murder

The Shanhai Daily reports that police will launch a probe into the alleged suicide of Sun Danyong, 25, who jumped from the 12th floor of a building last Thursday after being investigated by Foxconn officials over a missing fourth-generation iPhone prototype.

Sun had been detained by Foxconn officials and allegedly beaten. However, Gu Qinming, Foxconn's security chief, has denied charges that Sun was beaten. The ShanghaiDaily reports Gu has been suspended.

The missing prototype was one of 16 being shipped from Foxconn to Apple. According to The Register, Sun received the prototypes on July 9th, but found one missing a few days later and reported the missing prototype to his superiors on July 13th. His apartment was searched two days later when the alleged beating took place.

Foxconn commercial chief Li Jinming apologized to the family of Sun stating the incident reflected problems with Foxconn management.

Once the police determine whether Sun was murdered, they will investigate Foxconn's role in investigating the missing prototype.
