There are statistics on the nation, per capita, on how many people within each city commit suicide.

These statics debunk the often misinterpreted Emerald City, Seattle. Seattle doesn't have "Suicidal Tendencies" other than some of the music they produce. In fact, it might be the artists there that have an outlet to prevent depressing thoughts, and to encourage positive outflow.

Here are the top twenty cities that harness the highest suicide rate in the nation.

Source: National Association of County and City Health Officials (2004) and City-Data

15.) Tulsa, Okla.: Annual rate: 14.5 per 100,000 people annually.

14.) Phoenix, Ariz.: Annual rate: 14.7 per 100,000 people annually.

13.) Fresno, Calif.: Annual rate: 14.8 per 100,000 people annually.

12.) Portland, Ore.: Annual rate: 15.1 per 100,000 people annually.

11.) Pittsburgh, Pa.: Annual rate: 15.2 per 100,000 people annually.

10.) Wichita, Kan.: Annual rate: 15.2 per 100,000 people annually.

9.) Jacksonville, Fla.: Annual rate: 15.6 per 100,000 people annually.

8.) Denver, Colo.: Annual rate: 16.2 per 100,000 people annually.

7.) Miami, Fla.: Annual rate: 17.1 per 100,000 people annually.

6.) Mesa, Ariz.: Annual rate: 19.6 per 100,000 people annually.

5.) Albuquerque, N.M.: Annual rate: 21 per 100,000 people annually.

4.) Sacramento, Calif.: Annual rate: 22.7 per 100,000 people annually.

3.) Tucson, Ariz.: Annual rate : 25 per 100,000 people annually.

2.) Colorado Springs, Colo.: Annual rate: 26.1 per 100,000 people annually.

1.) Las Vegas, Nev.: Annual rate: 34.5 per 100,000 people annually.

The Seattle cloudy skies that are perceived as "gloomy" are not the reason why Seattle is perceived as the "Suicide capital of the US" to many. Although this data is from 2004, the fluctuation may vary between cities, but Seattle is far far behind even the fifteen mentioned above.
