This year we tested samples of travel related merchandise from nine companies that sent us products for review. We have three recommendations for you.
The first is from the Hydro Flask people who make food-grade stainless steel containers with double-walled vacuum insulation. We tested a 21-ounce, and a 64-ounce flask.
Both samples performed extremely well and kept chilled drinks colder longer than anything we had previously experienced – as much as 32 hours. They also kept hot drinks and soups piping hot for more than the advertised 12 hours – 16 hours in one trial.
We gave these flasks the boating test, hiking test, and the back of the sizzling car test. Made of 18/8 stainless, we found these containers to be the best we ever tested – now they go everywhere with us.
The flasks come in a large assortment of colors including stainless for the purists and pink for the ladies.
A great idea for the golfer on your list, or the hiker, biker, camper, boater... you get the idea!

The second recommendation is from the Acorn Media Group and is for the armchair travelers on your list.
Acorn Media has been called “Chief curators of the best Brit TV” by TIME magazine. They have a huge catalog of entertaining DVDs including some of Britain’s best Who Dunnits like Cadfael, Agatha Christie Mysteries, and our personal favorite Midsomer Murders. Take a look at Acorn Online Videos – there’s something for every TV viewer.
Because we are travel photojournalists Acorn Media U.S., sent us two travel DVDs for review. We found their choices to be brilliant.
The first is a series entitled Joanna Lumley’s Nile. In three hours and across four episodes in a two DVD set, the famous entertainer guides us on an exciting excursion by car, boat, plane, and train, down the world’s longest river. She starts at the Mediterranean Sea and completes the journey at the Nile’s southern source deep in the African Sudan.
Joanna doesn’t miss a beat as she makes stops in several countries in Africa, and visits some of the most inhospitable landscapes on the planet. It’s a 4,132-mile journey that adventure dreams are made of. Purchase it here.
Our final recommendation is also from Acorn. The second DVD set we reviewed is entitled Bill Moyers: On the Hudson—America’s First River. The legendary journalist explains how the Hudson River played an important role in American history. He goes on to describe how pollution in the 20th Century almost destroyed the river, and how it is fighting back.
In this two-part series, Moyers explores the river’s genesis and ecology. He acquaints the audience with the river’s vast natural beauty and why it is considered an enduring American legacy.
This inspiring DVD set plays for just under four-hours – time well spent. Buy it here.
Hopefully, one or more of these gift suggestions will be perfect for someone on your gift list.
