Beans are nutritious and a healthy addition to the dinner table. They make a great side dish or a delicious topping to popular comfort foods. Baked beans with a smoky flavoring joined with beef changes the way one thinks of beans. This dish is almost a meal by itself. The mixture of ingredients turns the plain flavor of beans into a slightly sugared, smoked and beefy experience.
Ingredients:
- 1 pound of ground beef
- ¼ cup of minced onions
- 1 cup of ketchup
- 4 (14 ounce) cans of pork ‘n beans
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons of liquid smoke
- 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon of pure maple syrup
Directions:
- In a large frying pan brown the ground beef and onions.
- Stir often and break up the beef until crumbly.
- Once the meat and onions are completely cooked drain the juices from the pan.
- Transfer the meat mixture into the crock pot.
- Add the remaining ingredients and stir well so everything gets coated nicely.
- Cover the pot and cook on low for 6 hours.
- Transfer the baked beans into a bowl and serve.
- Enjoy!
Suggestions:
- These beans are great as a side dish when serving hot dogs, burgers or sausages.
- Adding slices of your favorite cooked sausage or burnt trimmings from your barbecue cooking to this mix will add a welcome burst of extra flavor to this dish.
- Great side at any barbecue, party or holiday get together.
- This recipe can be made and served similar to sloppy Joes.
