The fans in attendance at Constellation Field in the Houston suburb of Sugar Land on Thursday evening, August 22, 2013 were treated to an appearance by some of the baseball greats of yesteryear on Black Heritage Night.
Prior to the first pitch of the Sugar Land Skeeters facing the Camden Riversharks, former players, including Jimmy Wynn, J.R. Richard, Kevin Bass, Cecil Cooper, Deacon Jones, and Country Music Hall of Famer Charley Pride posed for photos and chatted with fans..
Pride, who is a minority owner of the Texas Rangers, conducted interviews and warmed up in preparation to throw out the first pitch, to begin the contest, at 7:10 p.m.
Prior to the first pitch, the former players enter the ballpark, to the enthusiastic applause of the crowd, riding individually in a Corvette, which stopped behind home plate to allow their passenger to disembark.
Each player was ceremoniously presented with a Sugar Land Skeeters jersey with the name and number boldly displayed on the back.
During the first few innings, selected players signed autographs for fans on the concourse of Constellation Field.
Thursday evening was also Deacon Jones bobble head night, with the first 2,000 fans through the gate receiving the keepsake.
