Specific gardening rules to which the applicants must adhere include:

  • Chemical weed killers, fertilizers and pesticides are not allowed in the garden.
  • Garden fees are $35 per plot, payable when gardener registers for plot.
  • Disrespectful, abusive language or destructive behavior can result in the immediate loss of all gardening privileges, and forfeiture of any crops remaining in the garden.

Other garden rules include:

  • Gardeners are responsibility for weed control—must not exceed 6 inches in height in their own and the common areas.  Gardeners are responsible for trash removal in their own plots and adjacent pathways.
  • Aesthetic appeal is critical since one of the underlying goals of this project is to improve the appearance of the current unsightly Fairmont Park tennis courts.  VODA Landscape + Planning will help design and construct the community garden to ensure that aesthetic appeal is achieved
  • Cooperation and community – each gardener  is expected to participate in clean-up projects in the spring and fall and general maintenance throughout the season
  • Installations and additions – In order to maintain aesthetic appeal, anything that gardeners want to build or add to their garden plots needs to be approved in advance by the Board of Directors
  • Visitor beds (common area) will be planted and maintained to provide flowers and produce for visitors and pedestrians walking through the courts.  If theft becomes a problem, more secure fencing will be necessary.

Watering rules are equally important.  Gardeners must:

  • Turn off the water pump after watering.
  • Wind the hose back on the hose hanger
  • Not to detach the nozzle from the hose, but if they do, they must return it to the hose as soon as they are through watering.
  • Water their beds by running the hose around, not over, other garden beds.
