Sudden Demise is one of the newest "Magic: The Gathering" cards from the "Power Hungry" deck of Wizards of the Coast's upcoming multiplayer product "Commander (2013 Edition)." This rare red sorcery can have a devastating impact on the battlefield.
Sudden Demise - XR
Choose a color. Sudden Demise deals X damage to each creature of the chosen color.
In the Skyfang Mountains, one misstep can mean the end of an entire clan.
Compare Sudden Demise with Street Spasm and Bonfire of the Damned. It'll almost always hit more than one creature, and its power scales with the number of players in the game. Barring a miracle, Sudden Demise costs significantly less to cast than both spells. Although it won't deal direct damage to your opponent, because Sudden Demise hits all players it'll be able to knock out more creatures.
A significant drawback of Sudden Demise is that it can only deal damage to one color. Further complicating matters is that Sudden Demise deals damage to your creatures as well. Sudden Demise's effectiveness is highly variable depending on the number of other players in the game and what colors they are playing. If everyone at the table is playing white except you, Sudden Demise could be a complete blow out. On the flip side, should all your adversaries also be playing the same color that you are then Sudden Demise won't hold much weight unless your threats are all significantly higher in toughness than your rivals. With a diverse gauntlet of decks in your game, Sudden Demise can effectively deal with one or two people's threats however they may still have several creatures remaining on the battlefield that weren't the specified color.
How will you use Sudden Demise?
