It's easy to fall in love with the idea of getting rich in the film industry. Many have done it. Many more will. But the overwhelming majority of actors, directors, and screenwriters who embark on the journey to Hollywood fall radically short of monetary riches.
"Success is different things to different people," states six-time writer/director Christopher R. Mihm. "The continued ability to make films... and make people happy is enough for me. That's what keeps me doing it." For Mihm, financial gain is not a priority. He recommends young filmmakers curb their financial expectations and prepare for a long, hard road that may or may not lead to marked monetary gain.
If one's definition of success centers on wealth, Mihm's advice will likely pass ear to ear with nary a pause. Anyone grounded in reality, however, will be wise to heed the advice of an auteur who has released six movies in six years.
