On Tuesday, two New Jersey residents filed a lawsuit against Subway, the largest fast food chain in the world, saying that the company has been cheating by selling sandwiches that fall short of the 30 centimeters (one foot) length.
The lawsuit seeks compensation from the company and demands that it change its business practices, Mercury News reported on Jan. 23.
The plaintiffs' lawyer, Stephen DeNittis, said the company should produce sandwiches that really measure 12 inches (30 centimeters), or they must stop advertising these products as a footlong sandwiches.
DeNittis said he measured the sandwiches offered in 17 local places, and none reached a length of one foot.
The issue attracted wide attention on the internet last week, when a man in Australia posted a picture of a sandwich on Facebook with a tape measure showing the sub was not the advertised length of 12 inches.
Subway, based in Milford, Connecticut, did not immediately return a call requesting their statement on the issue.
