Two dead deep-water divers. A sabotaged airplane.
Yancey, Alaska was a quiet town. That is, it was until the truth of what was hidden in the depths off its coast began to appear...
Bailey Craig had vowed to never set foot in Yancey again. She has a reputation that follows her, and Yancey is a small town. So when she returns to bury a loved one that was killed in a plane crash, she is very determined not to stay for even an hour more than is necessary. But that's before a dark piece of evidence begins to emerge, and Bailey's expertise proves invaluable for the mystery that arises.
Cole McKenna can deal with the deep-sea diving and assisting the police in evidence recovery. He can even handle the fact that a murderer has settled in his town and doesn't appear to be moving onward anytime soon. But dealing with the reality of Bailey's return is a far more challenging problem than any of those other trials. She had broken his heart, but that doesn't mean she's the same girl who left Yancey. And while he may have let her down, he's not quite the same guy she left behind either. Can they both move on from the hurts of the past and find a future together?
“Submerged” is Dani Pettrey's debut novel and also the first book in the Alaskan Courage series. And yet it doesn't really read on the level of a debut at all! This is everything you'd want in a suspense novel, and then some! The characters really make the book. It was so great that I finished it fairly quickly. It's a book you literally just cannot put down at all. This new author definitely has a great gift for writing suspense. It's rare to find a novel like this that reads so well and so fast - I thoroughly enjoyed it!
This action-packed novel would seriously make a great movie. I could imagine certain scenes in my head just as they would appear on a screen. All in all, I have no complaints whatsoever; it's the perfect length, the perfect characters, and just an awesome book all around!
