Subcompact Mazda2 coming to U.S., will debut at LA Auto Show Dec. 2

HIROSHIMA, JAPAN, Nov. 19 – The Mazda 2, subcompact cousin to the upcoming Ford Fiesta, will be introduced at the Los Angeles Auto Show Dec. 2 and go on sale in the United States late next year.

Company officials have not released many details about the U.S. model, but the Mazda2 has been sold in other countries for nearly two years as a five-door hatchback, four-door sedan and three-door hatchback.
It is powered by 1.3-liter and 1.5-liter gasoline engines and a 1.4-liter turbodiesel engine.

The car has won 48 awards, been recognized as the Car of the Year in 20 countries and was named the 2008 World Car of the Year. The Ford Fiesta will also go on sale in the United States next year.
