Subaru starts 2013 Canadian rally season off with a bang

The Subaru Rally Team Canada team cleaned up at this past weekend’s season opener for the Canadian Rally Championship, the Rallye Perce-Neige, held in Maniwaki, Quebec. In first place were drivers Pat Richard and Rob Fagg, with 22 points. What makes that even more impressive is that it’s the first time they’ve worked together, and while Fagg has lots of UK rally experience, this was his first Canadian competition.

As you might expect for early February, conditions were icy. Apparently that was no trouble for the custom 2008 Impreza WRX STI from Richard’s shop, Rocket Rally Racing. “The car ran flawlessly," said Richard. "Now we have two wins in a row. This speaks volumes to the upgrades we made last year… The tides have turned. If we can keep going, it's going to be a fantastic year.”

In second place, in a 2010 Subaru WRX STI, were Steeve Hobbs and Jean Mathieu Tremblay, while right behind them in a 2005 Subaru WRX STI were Ugo Desgreniers and Erik Kirby. There were another four Subarus finishing in the top ten, giving them a five-point lead for the start of the season.

The next event of the six event season is the Rallye Baie des Chaleurs, which will be held in New Richmond, Quebec, on June 29 and 30. While conditions will be very different for that race, Team Subaru does have eight Canadian championships under their belt. Will this year see the ninth?
