Atlanta Aussie expats and cricket fans will be pleased to know that Aussie cricketer Shane Warne finally got his statue at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on December 22, 2011.
It was altogether bizarre but Australian cricket player Shane Warne finally gets a statue in his honor but it resembles the old Shane…
Not fair is it? Liz Hurley, Warne’s fiancée took great pains to get him all spruced up and rather beautiful looking to perhaps even mirror herself and now Australia has cast him in bronze as his old pudgy and less attractive self!
In all fairness, Shane Warne has become quite the fashion plate with eyebrows plucked, chest hair waxed, minus perhaps 75 pounds, sleek haired and donning designer clothes which the tabloids all picked up on.
Now Melbourne Cricket Ground has Shane immortalized with wide hips and a paunch, looking rather disheveled as he bowls for an eternity – probably to Hurley’s horror!
Actually the face on the statue doesn’t look at all like the old Shane Warne either!
For the statue unveiling ceremony, Shane wore a rather distinguished dark blue suit, while Liz wore a fitted little sheath with an artsy print in blues, greens and purples. In tow were their children Summer, Jackson and Brooke Warne and Damian Hurley.
Perhaps the folks at Melbourne Cricket Ground in all their subtlety are trying to say that they miss the old Shane – the quintessential Aussie bloke who likes his meat pies and beer and doesn’t care if his hair isn’t perfect…
See what I mean in my slide show…
