This spring brings some of the most colorful and bold looks seen in a long time, from bright florals and neons to dramatic feather skirts and sheers. While these statement trends provide the ultimate opportunity to let your look bloom this season, they also provide the perfect recipe for a fashion disaster if not worn appropriately. Amy Gordon, style expert and founder of online boutique Artfulwears.com, shares tips for working these trends into your day and night looks.
Bright floral dresses are pretty much chic for everything this spring. Wear a more muted floral print for the office and a brighter one for play. Choose a print that is proportional to your height – tall girls should wear large prints, while those with smaller frames should opt for a smaller print.
Nudes are all the rage for spring. They work great with a little pop of color. For the office, think nude shoes. Pair a nude bottom with a colored or print top. For evening, try a nude-colored dress with a bright shoe.
Sheer pieces are hot this season. While most designers are lining them for us, most of these styles do not work for the office. Try a long-sleeved sheer blouse with a camisole underneath. For evening, make it a little sexier, but be careful not to go over the top. Less is more.
This season’s muted, lightweight suits reflect the light, airy florals and nudes seen on spring runways. A pale gray suit with a pale sky blue top underneath is stunning.
Be cautious wearing this season’s loose calf-length pants. They don't work for everybody. Balance with a fitted jacket or blazer and wear with high-heels.
Peep-toe booties must be the greatest trend in shoes in years! They are sexy and versatile, and can easily be worn with pants to the office, jeans on the weekend or a great dress for evening.
This is a special occasion trend. Think evening, cocktail or club. Do not try this at work!
While we see nautical style every few years, this year it's huge! This year, it’s seen in subtle details. Think rope trims and navy or red stripes. This trend has also created a huge market for navy blue. Navy is everywhere. Embrace it – it's fresh.
I really didn’t think I would see the day where I was loving neon again, but the way designers are integrating just a touch of neon with neutrals is fun. A simple nude-colored dress with a neon yellow piping is hot right now and works for day or night, work and play.
