I am quite sure that I'm not the first person to sing Target's praises. Not by a long shot. The mega-chain has been delighting consumers since 1962, and now, with their grocery-store hybrids, the place is a veritable one-stop shop for each and every need. Over-burdened by a multi-item shopping list? If you're near a Super Target, never fear – you can buy your black tights, shampoo and the milk and eggs.
Although there has been major contention lately about the curse of evil “big box” stores, like Target and WalMart, the beauty of Target lies not just within its convenience, but the availability of healthy, fresh food and inexpensive, store-brand versions of pricier items, like toiletries or over-the-counter medications. Any Super Target features fresh produce and plenty of smart choices in low-fat dairy, lean meats and whole grains. The company boasts its own brands of pain relievers, body washes, lotions, makeup, etc.
Recently, top designers have been creating affordable, eye-catching lines for both Target stores and their online segment, target.com. Proenza Schouler, Felix Ray and Zac Posen have made their high-end designs available to the wallet-conscious fashionista. Longtime Target designer Isaac Mizrahi still provides classic, clean pieces that are surprisingly durable. From the uber-trendy, faux-leather biker jackets to full-skirted, lovely black cocktail dresses, Target is a great place for of-the-moment, on-a-budget looks.
For Madisonians, our Target connections are ever-expanding: along with the east and west side locations and the recent Super Target near Fitchburg, the retail giant will also settle into the Shorewood area, next to Hilldale Mall – filling in the now-empty, ominous cavity where the Hilldale Theater once stood. Fear not, downtown Madison shoppers – healthy groceries, inexpensive beauty products and retail-therapy are all close at hand!
