The Sega Dreamcast is proving to be quite the little console that could. Released on September 9, 1999 (9/9/99), the venerable game system will receive its newest game, ‘Sturmwind’, on November 11, 2011 (11/11/11).
In development for 6 years, ‘Sturmwind’ is a both horizontal and vertical, scrolling “shoot-em up” 2D/3D engine-driven game that makes use of the system’s Visual Memory Unit (VMU) and rumble pack. Developed by Duranik and published by RedSpotGames ‘Sturmwind’ will offer 7 worlds, 16 levels, 20 bosses and will be region-free, making it playable on any Dreamcast anywhere in the world.
In July Red Spot Games announced the release of ‘Sturmwind’ was being pushed back in order to make changes to improve game play.
‘Sturmwind’ will be the 720th game created for the Sega Dreamcast and will maintain the console’s record of having seen a commercially released game every year since it was first released in Europe in 1998.
The first to enter into the previous generation of game consoles, the Sega Dreamcast was also the first to be discontinued, followed by the Nintendo Gamecube and the Microsoft XBOX. The Sony Playstation 2 remains available.
