There are not enough derogatory adjectives in the dictionary to describe Bart Stupak. This one, lone, “principled” Democrat caved today on the most nonsensical promise of all: that the President could actually write an executive order that trumps legislation. Astonishing! Has he ever read the Constitution? If he and the Democrats believe this will work, then they believe that the President is in fact a despot and can rule by decree. At this point, that assumption may not be far off the mark. If they don’t believe it, well…
But that latter bet is not far off, it turns out. Don’t know how we missed it, but this video (HT Hanen) from last fall reveals that Stupak was all set to vote for the bill all along, regardless the abortion provision. He played it hard to the end, but it appears now it was all theatrics. Watch him explain to a sparse but very disappointed audience last october how he would vote "his conscience" even if the healthcare bill excluded the abortion ban:
In another interview with Fox’s Megyn Kelly around the same time, Stupak was essentially calling the President and Democrat leaders liars. He was bluff and confident, claiming he and his “pro-life” Democrats could kill the bill in November. Kelly expressed surprise that he would challenge the President’s words, pointing out that Stupak was no “blue dog” Democrat, but presumably an Obama supporter, and had a 95 percent liberal rating from Americans for Democratic Action. He responded that he was not a “progressive” or a blue dog, “…I’m just a plain old Democrat doing my job.”
That’s right he’s just like every other Democrat, not a blue dog or a yellow dog, just a plain old dog. And when Nancy Pelosi says “roll over” he’s on the floor with his feet in the air, tongue lolling and tail wagging like a stupid hound. Instapundit just remarked that a grant announced Friday for three airports in Stupak’s district was probably just a coincidence… At a mere $729,406, Instapundit is probably right. That looks more like a bone Pelosi tossed him. After all, the idiot didn’t need a bribe when he has the President’s word! Good luck with that.
Meanwhile, the Democrats are confident they will win on a motion to recommit likely forthcoming from Republicans. And why not? The Stupaks of the world have already sold out. There will be no percentage in them voting with Republicans to recommit under any circumstances.
It was difficult to imagine any Democrat holding out against the thuggish pressure the thugs of today’s Democrat Party are willing to use. But I need not have worried. It turns out even the “principled” Democrats have none.
So congratulations. You now have your healthcare wrecking, nation wrecking, healthcare bill, Democrats. I sure hope you're proud. For the rest of us, welcome to Communism 101.

Martian, I hope the payroll taxes don't make your Martian products cost more. Down here on Earth, the twits who pretend like only the super-rich will get hit with the effects of this will soon wonder why prices are going sky-high and causing stagflation that would make Jimmy Carter blush. I guess we all knew this from the beginning, but what a way to get some press! The executive order isn't worth the paper on which it is written and we all know it! Hey, Martian, maybe YOU could pick up the tabs for the rest of us when it starts hitting our pockets. This is to all the dumb ass kool-aid drinkers out there. November will be a blood bath. This bill will get tangled up in the courts so don't hold your breath all you out there who are looking for something for nothing. This corrupt administration will be outed soon. And no complaining allowed from all you happy campers when your taxes go up.

30+ years ago, Pro Choicers were screaming "No one can or cannot tell a woman what to do with her body". Remember that argument, and still is used today. Where are these people now?? When the government is going to be able to tell EVERYONE that's simply breathing what they can and cannot do to their bodies! Already, no salt, no trans fat, no this, no that. Everything you do, eat, drink, drive, etc., can be related back to healthcare. Where are you people now?
This bill is so far from communism/socialism that it's hilarious you would characterize it this way. It's not national health care, it's not one-payer, it's not public option, it's the insurance companies getting more subscribers.
I think the clue that Stupak was for the bill was that he voted for it in November. The difference between his provisions and Nelson's are that his provisions would not have been "abortion neutral." The EO gave him a face saving way to admit that and to squash the red herring that community health center funds could ever pay for abortions.
This won't be a November issue. The immigration debate which was promised for the near future will let the conservatives show their best side to the voters. I'm thinking Democrat pickup.

Both pro-life and pro-choice commentators have agreed that Stupak has been very dishonest in his rationalization for voting for the health care bill.
Stupak cites an Executive Order Obama issued yesterday to justify his about-face, but the Executive Order is a meaningless sop, with no practical significance, that changes nothing about federal abortion policy, and Rep. Stupak knew it.
The Executive Order just restates what is already in the Senate bill.
At the Volokh.com legal commentary web site, two well-respected law professors, Jonathan Adler and Ilya Somin, note that the executive order adds nothing substantive at all.
They themselves don't care about the abortion issue itself (they are mildly pro-choice), but they do care about Stupak's dishonesty in claiming to have achieved something substantive with the executive order, when Stupak knew well that it changed nothing.
Clyde, as some of these idiots have stated in the last few days, "this is just the beginning!" I guess the best is yet to come???? Doesn't matter if it isn't communistic/socialistic today -- what will tomorrow bring? Mandates, IRS in control of the program . . . . hmmmmmm!
