Stupak 'retires'

The problem with Democratic Congressman Bart Stupak's indefatigable "crusade" to keep public funds from being used to pay for abortions in his party's plan to socialize medicine is that IT WASN'T.

Stupak caved, speculation abounds as to the nature of exactly what Barack Obama promised him - or what other method of coercion was used behind closed doors - and the name of the 18 year Congressional veteran from Michigan's first district has become synonymous with cowardice, prevarication, and invertebrate vacillation.

The latest in the saga of Stupak was yesterday's announcement that he will not seek reelection, tantamount to retirement. The progressive spin doctors quickly came to "Flippers" defense seeking to cloud the issue citing numerous reasons for the latest pilgrim's enlistment in the exodus toward the hills, including the suicide of Stupak's son BJ in 1999.

Of course any human being with a heart and soul feels compassion towards the embattled Congressman and his wife Laurie. However the left citing that horrific tragedy in Stupak's life as a reason for his retirement 11 years later is about as lowly as it gets. But then, these ARE liberal Democrats.

Stupak himself tried flaccidly to deflect the focus from the outrage of his dithering on his commitment to oppose Obamacare, stating simply “it's time to begin a new and exciting chapter.”

Stupak also sought to convey a sort of “mission accomplished” attitude when he said, “When I first ran for Congress in 1992, I campaigned on a pledge to make affordable, quality health care a right, not a privilege, for all Americans...”

As argued previously, the passage of the loathsome healthcare law does NOT accomplish what Stupak claims it does in terms of making “quality healthcare affordable.”

Maybe if he’d campaigned on the pledge to ration healthcare, socialize medicine, and violate the Constitution in the process he’d have a better argument. Perhaps he SHOULD run again and actually fulfill his promise in the next term.

The overlay of narrative emerging on the left in general and towards Stupak specifically, is that to concede the backlash over healthcare is at the heart of his resignation is to admit that he was wrong in changing his vote, his commitment to the pro-life movement was secondary to his otherwise rancid liberal leanings, and that the overwhelming national sentiment is squarely anti Obamacare.

It’s a shame Stupak didn’t devote his career to moving government out of the way of American entrepreneurship; Michigan’s 14.1% unemployment rate, amongst the highest in the country, might actually be at a more manageable level if he had.

Stupak’s acquiescence to Obama and the other hard left liberals, handed them what must surely prove to be a Pyrrhic victory at best. One which, no matter how hard these socialist politicians or their driveling mouthpieces attempt to spin it, will cost them dearly in November.

Perhaps one might argue that Bart Stupak developed a case of conscience, albeit way too late to matter. Others see the man as simply biding his time all along, telling lie after lie, and never intending to stand on his “principles.” The video below certainly calls his honesty and integrity into question.

Some, such as soon to be private citizen Bart Stupak, simply lack the intestinal fortitude to put forward reasoned arguments dignifying their actions. So the public is left pondering who is worse. Men Like Barack Obama who rub America’s nose in their actions, all the while mocking, ridiculing, and demonizing those who dare oppose their worldview; or those who are more overtly cowards like Bart Stupak.

In either case, anyone who knows anything about politics can hardly help but see that these are seedy characters bent on “fundamentally transforming America.” One can hardly claim that much was kept secret.

With Keith, it's as simple as either or. I take comfort in that.

"It" in fact IS as simple as either/or. That I acknowledge the verity of absolute truth doesn't make it any more or less true. Nor does it, in my mind, consistently make me right in understanding and abiding by it. As I've always maintained, truth is true on its own accord. My belief cannot affirm it any more than any one else's disbelief can annul it.
It'd be interesting to have you actually opine on the content of one of my columns sometime Frump. But then I realize that would take the expenditure of actual thought. Thanks for reading all the same.

    I'm "either/or" about Democrats, Keith.
Either they delusional...or they REALLY delusional.
    Either they're corrupt...or they're REALLY corrupt.
Either they suck....or they REALLY suck.
