Stallone’s Expendables film is an action-packed flick with over-the-top explosions and dramatic stunts. A Sofia Media Agency in Bulgaria reported that a foreigner died on the film’s set, as well as two other stuntmen were injured in incident that took place at a water reservoir in the town of Elin Pelin, outside of Sofia, the Bulgarian capital.
The accident occurred while shooting a scene in the reservoir with a fake bomb explosion in a rubber boat. No further details on how the incident occurred were reported.
The film’s producers confirmed the death and released the following statement, “It is with great regret that we confirm this unfortunate accident. Our hearts go out to the families and those on the production affected by this tragedy. The filmmakers are working closely with the authorities in responding to and investigating this accident."
The Expendables adventure flick brought back former great action stars like, Jason Statham, Bruce Willis, Terry Crews, Jet Li and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The sequel will add action and stunt icons, Chuck Norris and Jean Claude Van Damme.
Rumor has it that John Travolta may have a role in the sequel, and that Eric Roberts and Mickey Rourke may not return second time around. Also, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s role will be expanded.
New York’s own, the “Italian Stallion” will reprise role of Barney Ross, leader of the mercenary pack in Expendables 2. The adventure and thriller sequel has a mid August 2012 release date.
