Stunned Denver Broncos held scoreless in the first half of the Super Bowl

The second stanza of Super Bowl 2014 began with more of the same, much to the chagrin of the Denver Broncos.

Starting in good field position thanks to the combination of a Peyton Manning interception and a Percy Harvin end around for a big gain; Seattle had their field position improved quickly thanks to a pass interference call against Wesley Woodyard.

As the penalty was in the end zone, the Seattle Seahawks got the ball at the one-yard line. The second time was a charm for Lynch, who pounded the ball into the end zone on second down.

The 15-0 deficit was the biggest Denver has had in the first half this season.

On their next drive, the Broncos finally started to move the ball; but Peyton Manning had a pass tipped by Cliff Avril that Malcolm Smith was able to run underneath. Smith returned the pick 69 yards for a touchdown.

The play was the longest interception returned for a touchdown since Tracy Porter’s 74-yard return on a pick of Manning in Super Bowl XLIV.

Trindon Holliday had a nice return on the ensuing kickoff. Originally ruled a fumble; the call was overturned.

The Broncos again effectively drove the ball down the field, but passed up a red zone field goal to go to it on fourth and two from Seattle’s 19-yard line. Manning’s pass to Demaryius Thomas was nearly picked off; but it wouldn’t have mattered as the ball turned over on downs.

The half ended with the Broncos in a position that nobody expected them to be in. As the offensive juggernaut was held scoreless; and Denver facing a 22-point deficit.
